जीवनवृत्त
वर्तमान पट्टाचार्य आचार्य श्री 108 वर्धमान सागर जी महाराज
कृषि प्रधान भारत का स्वरूप ऋषिप्रधान रहा है। यहाँ सत्ता,वैभव एवं ऐश्वर्य के उन्नत शिखर भी त्याग, वैराग्य एवं आत्मसाधना के चरणों में झुकते रहे हैं। अनादिकाल से जीवन का लक्ष्य सत्ता व ऐश्वर्य नहीं, किन्तु साधना व वैराग्य रहा है। भारतीय मस्तिष्क मूलतः शान्ति का इच्छुक है और शान्ति का उपाय त्याग व साधना है। यही कारण रहा है कि आत्मसाधना के पक्ष पर चलने वाला साधक ही भारतीय जीवन का आदर्श, श्रद्धेय और वन्दनीय माना जाता रहा है।
इस हुण्डावसर्पिणी काल के सर्वप्रथम सर्वोत्कृष्ट आत्मसाधक भगवान ऋषभदेव से लेकर भगवान महावीर पर्यन्त चतुर्विशंति तीर्थकर महापुरुषों की पावन परम्परा में अनेक महर्षियों ने अपनी आत्मसाधना की है और उनका आदर्श अद्यप्रभृति अक्षुण्ण बना हुआ है। भगवान महावीर के पश्चात् गौतमस्वामी से लेकर धरसेनाचार्य तक और उनके पश्चात् भी कुन्दकुन्दाचार्य आदि से लेकर अद्यप्रभृति महान आत्माएं इस पृथ्वी तल पर जन्म लेती रही है और आर्ष परम्परा के अनुकूल आत्मसाधना करते हुए अन्य भव्य प्राणियों को भी आत्मसाधना का मार्ग प्रशस्त कर रही हैं।
इन्हीं महान् धर्माचार्यों की परम्परा में कुन्दकुन्दान्वय में ईस्वी सन् की 19वीं शताब्दि में एक महान् आत्मा का जन्म हुआ और वह विश्व में चारित्र चक्रवर्ती आचार्य श्री शान्तिसागरजी महाराज के नाम से जाने गये। आचार्य श्री शान्तिसागरजी महाराज ने इस भारत भू पर अवतरित होकर 19-20 वीं शताब्दि में लुप्तप्रायः आगम विहीत मुनिधर्म को पुनः प्रगट किया एवं दक्षिण से उत्तर भारत की ओर मंगल विहार करके दिगम्बर मुनि का स्वरूप एवं चर्या जो मात्र शास्त्रों में वर्णित थी, को प्रगट किया। उन महर्षि की महती कृपा का ही यह फल है कि आज यत्र-तत्र सर्वत्र दिगम्बर मुनिराजों के दर्शन, उपदेश श्रवण का लाभ समाज को प्राप्त हो रहा है। आचार्य शान्तिसागरजी महाराज के पश्चात् उन्हीं के प्रधान मुनिशिष्य श्री वीरसागरजी ने आचार्य पद ग्रहण किया एवं उनके पश्चात् उन्हीं के प्रधान मुनिशिष्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज ने आचार्य पद को सुशोभित किया। उभय आचार्यों ने अपने समय में चतुर्विधसंघ की अभिवृद्धि के साथ-साथ धर्म की महती प्रभावना में भी अपना अपूर्व योगदान दिया। आचार्य त्रय की इस महान परम्परा में आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज के पश्चात् आचार्य श्री शान्तिसागरजी के प्रशिष्य एवं आचार्य श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज के द्वितीय मुनिशिष्य श्री धर्मसागरजी महाराज आचार्य पद पर प्रतिष्ठित हुये। उन्हीं आचार्य श्री का जीवनवृत्त प्रस्तुत निबन्ध में लिखा गया है।
एक दिन अवनितल पर आंखें खुलीं, यही जीवन का प्रारम्भ हुआ एक दिन आखिों ने देखना बन्द कर दिया वह जीवन का अन्त हुआ। जीवन किस तरह जीया गया यह जीवन का मध्य है। कौन किस तरह जीवन जी गया यह महत्वपूर्ण प्रश्न है। इसी प्रश्न की चर्चा में से जीवन चरित्रों का गठन, लेखन और परिगुम्फन होता है। महान् पुरुषों के जीवन चरित्र प्रेरणादायक होते हैं अतः परम्परागत आचार्य परमेष्ठी श्री धर्मसागरजी महाराज का जीवन चरित्र जो कि अत्यन्त प्रेरणादायक है, उसे इसी उद्देश्य से यहाँ प्रस्तुत किया है कि उनके जीवन से प्रेरणा पाकर हम भी उन महापुरुषों के पद चिन्हों पर चलकर अपने जीवन को उन्नत एवं महान बना सकें।
जन्म एवं बाल्यकाल :
भगवान धर्मनाथ ने कैवल्य प्राप्ति की थी अतः केवलज्ञान कल्याणक की तिथि होने से जो दिवस काल मंगल रूप था और जिस दिन चन्द्रमा ने अपनी षोडशकलाओं से परिपूर्ण होकर अपनी शुभ्र ज्योत्सना से जगत् को आलोकित किया था उसी पौषी पूर्णिमा के दिन विक्रम सम्वत् 1970 में राजस्थान प्रान्त के बून्दी जिलान्तर्गत गम्भीरा ग्राम में सदगृहस्थ श्रेष्ठी श्री बख्तावरमलजी की धर्मपत्नि श्रीमती उमरावबाई की कुक्षी से एक बालक ने जन्म लिया जिसका नाम चिरञ्जीलाल रखा गया।
खण्डेलवाल जातीय छाबड़ा गोत्रीय श्रेष्ठी बख्तावरमलजी भी अपने को धन्य समझने लगे जब उनके गृहांगण में पुत्ररतन बालसुलभ क्रीड़ाओं से परिवारजनों को आनन्दित करने लगा।
पारिवारिक स्थिति
आपके पिता बख्तावरमलजी एवं उनके अग्रज श्री कंवरीलालजी, दोनों सहोदर भ्राता थे। दोनों ही भाइयों के मध्य दो संतानें थीं। अग्रज भ्राता के दाखां बाई नाम की कन्या एवं अनुज भ्राता के आप पुत्र थे। आप से पूर्व जन्म लेने वाली संतानों का सुख माता-पिता नहीं आपकी बड़ी बहिन (बड़े पिता की संतान) दाखाँबाई का विवाह निकटस्थ ग्राम बामणवास में हुआ था। शैशवावस्था की दहलीज पर आपने पैर रखा ही था कि आपके माता-पिता का असामयिक निधन हो गया। उधर दाखाँबाई को भी माता-पिता का वियोगजन्य दुःख आ पड़ा, किन्तु आपकी अपेक्षा उनकी आयु अधिक थी और विवाहित थी अतः उनको पति तथा सासससुर के संरक्षण में रहने का अवसर होने से अधिक चिंता नहीं थी। आपका जीवन तो अल्प समय में ही माता-पिता के लाड़-प्यार भरे संरक्षण से वञ्चित हो गया था। इष्ट वियोगज दुःख में आपको बहिन दाखाँबाई का संरक्षण मिला। आप बामणवास जाकर उन्हीं के पास रहने लगे और जब विद्याध्ययन के योग्य हुए तो आप अपने पिता श्री के पूर्वजों की जन्मस्थली दुगारी ग्राम चले गये। वहाँ आपको मोतीलालजी-सुवालालजी छाबडा का संरक्षण प्राप्त हुआ। इधर दाखाँबाई को अल्पवय में ही एक और इष्ट वियोगज दुःख का झटका लगा जब उनके पति श्री भंवरलालजी का स्वर्गवास हो गया। अब तो मात्र दोनों भाई बहिन के निर्मल स्नेह का ही जीवन में आश्रय शेष था जो कि बहिन के जीवन पर्यन्त रहा।
शिक्षा:
क्रमशः एक के बाद एक वियोगज दुःख आने से आपके प्रारम्भिक जीवन में भी आप विशेष विद्याध्ययन नहीं कर सके। यद्यपि आपको अपने जीवन में उस समय सामान्य शिक्षा ग्रहण कर ही संतोष प्राप्त करना पड़ा, तथापि शिक्षा के प्रति आपका विशेष अनुरागद अद्यप्रभृति जीवन के अंत तक बना रहा।
बचपन में अनभिज्ञतावश आप प्रायः सभी धर्मों के देवताओं के पास जाते थे। आप शिवालय भी गए, मस्जिद भी गये। आप सभी देवताओं के पास जाकर एक मात्र यही याचना करते थे कि “मुझे बुद्धि दे दो, विद्या दे दो"। उस समय आपको धर्मशास्त्रों का भी विशेष ज्ञान नहीं था और न गांव में कोई सही मार्ग बताने वाला था। एक दिन आप जैन मंदिर में गए, वहां एक शास्त्रों के जानकार व्यक्ति शास्त्र वाचन कर रहे थे, उन्होंने कहा कि जो वीतराग जिनेन्द्र के अतिरिक्त अन्य कुदेवताओं की पूजा करता है वह नरक में जाता है। आपने इस बात को सुना और वह आपके हृदय में अच्छी तरह बैठ गई, उसी समय से आपने अन्य देवताओं को पूजना तो बंद कर दिया, किन्तु मंदिर तब भी जाना पारम्भ नहीं किया।
वीतराग प्रभु की शरण की प्रेरणा :
'दुगारी' में जब आप अधिक दिन विद्याभ्यास नहीं कर सके तो फिर आप अपनी बहिन दाखांबाई के पास ही आकर बामणवास रहने लगे। उन दिनों उत्तर भारत में दिगम्बर मुनिराजों का अत्यंत अभाव था अतः उनका समागम-उपदेश श्रवण दुर्लभ था। यही कारण था कि आपको स्थानकवासी जैन साधुओं के समागम में रहने का अधिकतर अवसर मिलता रहा, क्योंकि उन दिनों कोटा नगर के आसपास उन्हीं साधुओं का विहार होता था। जब आप पर साधुओं के समागम में इतना प्रभाव पड़ा कि आप दिगम्बर वीतराग प्रभु के मंदिर में न जाकर स्थानक में जाते और स्थानकवासी सम्प्रदाय के अनुसार समस्त धार्मिक क्रियाएं करते, तो बहिन दाखांबाई ने आपको प्रेरणा दी कि जिनेंद्र प्रभु के दर्शन करने के लिए जिन मंदिर जाया करो, किन्तु कई बार इस प्रकार की प्रेरणा करने पर भी आप पर कुछ असर नहीं पड़ा तो फिर बहिन ने अनुशासनात्मक कदम उठाया कि “यदि मंदिर दर्शन करने नहीं जाओगे तो रोटी नहीं मिलेगी"। चूंकि आप पर स्थानकवासी संस्कार अधिक पड़ चुके थे अतः आप मंदिर जाने से कतराते रहे, तथापि घर पर आकर जब बहिन ने एक दिन पूछा कि आज मंदिर जाकर आये या नहीं तो झूठ का सहारा लिया और कह दिया कि मंदिर जाकर आया हूँ। भोजन तो मिल गया, किन्तु बहिन ने मंदिर की मालिन से पूछ ही लिया कि “क्या आज चिरंजी मंदिर दर्शन करने आया था” उत्तर नकारात्मक मिला तब घर पहुँचने पर पुनः आपके समक्ष प्रश्न था कि “आज मंदिर नहीं गये थे” मंदिर की मालिन ने तो मना किया कि तुम मंदिर नहीं गये? उत्तर मिला“मालिन झूठ बोलती है"। बात तो आयी गयी हो नहीं सकी, किन्तु उस दिन झूठ बोलने से आपका हृदय आत्मग्लानि से भर गया और मन ही मन निर्णय किया कि “झूठ के सहारे कब तक काम चलेगा, कल से नित्य देवदर्शन के लिए मंदिर जाना ही है।” दूसरे ही दिन से वीतराग प्रभु की शरण में जाने लगे। आप स्वयं भी बहिन की अनुशासनात्मक प्रेरणा से प्रसन्न थे, क्योंकि वह आपके जीवनमोड़ का सर्वप्रथम कारण था और आप इस बात का उल्लेख करते समय गौरव पूर्ण शब्दों से बहिन का उपकार मानते थे। वास्तव में परिजनों का वही यथार्थ वात्सल्य है जो अपने परिवार के सदस्यों को सही मार्ग में आरूढ़ करके उनके जीवन निर्माण में सहायक हो सके। दुर्घटना से बचे:जिस प्रकार स्वर्ण अग्नि में तपकर ही परिशुद्ध होता है, उसी प्रकार महापुरुष भी संघर्षमय जीवन की अग्नि में तपकर ही महान होते हैं। आपका जीवन भी संघर्षमय रहा है। इष्ट वियोगज दुःख तो आपके जीवन में था ही, किन्तु एक प्राणांतकारी दुर्घटना भी आपके जीवन में घटी, तथापि बुद्धिबल से उस दुर्घटना से भी बचे।बात आपके विद्याभ्यास से समय की ही है, आपके मित्रगण अच्छा तैरना जानते थे और प्रतिदिन तालाब पर जाकर उसमें तैरा करते थे। आपको तैरना आता नहीं था अतः मित्रों के अनेक बार आग्रह करने पर भी आप उनके साथ कभी तालाब पर नहीं गए। एक दिन संध्या के समय विद्यालय से अवकाश होने पर आप घर न जाकर सीधे तालाब पर पहुँचे और देखा कि आस-पास ही क्या कहीं दूर तक भी कोई व्यक्ति नहीं दिखाई दे रहा है तो आप कपड़े खोलकर तालाब में कूद पड़े, किन्तु एकदम अकेले में इस प्रकार तैरना सीखने की अभिलाषा बड़ी महंगी पड़ी। ज्योंहि आपने तालाब में छलांग लगायी आप डूबने लगे। जब देखा कि अब तो डूब जावेंगे तो सहसा ही मन में विचार आया कि घबराते क्यों हो? हाथ-पांव तो हिलाओ, विचारानुसार क्रिया भी की, फल यह हुआ कि येन केन प्रकारेण तालाब के किनारे लग गये और किनारे पहुँचकर जब घाट की सीढ़ियों के सहारे से ऊपर चढ़ने लगे तो सीढ़ियों पर 'काई' जम जाने से वह सहारा भी छूठ गया तथा पुनः पानी में डूबने लगे। अब की बार पुनः हाथ पांव चलाने से किनारे पहुंचे और सीढ़ियों का मजबूती से सहारा लेकर तालाब से बाहर आ गये तथा शीघ्र ही दुर्घटना से अपने को मुक्त पाकर प्रसन्न होते हुए घर की ओर चले गये।इस घटना के पश्चात् आपने तालाब में तैरना सीख लिया। तालाब में तैरना तो मात्र औपचारिकता थी, जो संसार समुद्र से पार होने की कला में प्रवीण होने वाले थे, वे तालाब में तैरने की कला में प्रवीणता प्राप्त करना कैसे महत्वपूर्ण समझते? और जिन्हें मोक्षमार्ग में चलकर आत्मकल्याण के पथ में अग्रसर होना था जो महान् पुण्यशाली थे वे कैसे दुर्घटना ग्रस्त हो सकते थे?
व्यापार जीवन का प्रथम मोड़:
14-15 वर्ष की अवस्था में ही आपने आजीविकोपार्जन हेतु व्यापार प्रारम्भ कर दिया। एक छोटी सी दुकान आपने खोल ली, नैनवां जाकर 2-3 दिन में कुछ सामान ले आते और उसे बेचकर अपनी आजीविका चलाते थे। आपको संतोषवृत्ति से ही गृहस्थ जीवन व्यतीत करना
इष्ट था, फलस्वरूप आप जब यह देख लेते कि आज आजीविका योग्य लाभ प्राप्त हो गया तो उसी समय दुकान बंद कर देते थे।
इस समय तक भी आपको दिगम्बर साधुओं का निकटतम सान्निध्य प्राप्त नहीं हुआ था। अतः बहिन की प्रेरणा से यद्यपि मन्दिर जाना तो प्रारम्भ कर दिया था, किन्तु विशेष रूप से धर्मकार्यों की ओर झुकाव नहीं हो पाया था। इसी मध्य नैनवां नगर में प.पू. सिंहवृत्ति धारक, परमागम पोषक 108 आ.क. श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज के चातुर्मास का सुयोग प्राप्त हुआ। गुरुदेव का समागम प्राप्त कर आपने अपने जीवन को नया मोड़ दिया और शुद्ध भोजन करने का आजीवन नियम धारण किया। साथ-साथ गृहस्थ के षडावश्यक कर्मों का परिपालन भी आपने दृढ़ता पूर्वक प्रारम्भ कर दिया था।
देशान्तर गमन:
कुछ ही वर्षों के पश्चात् आप अपनी बहिन के साथ इन्दौर चले गये। वहाँ जाकर आपने सेठ कल्याण मलजी की कपड़ा मील में नौकरी कर ली। चूंकि जीवन निर्वाह तो करना ही था अतः आपने नौकरी करना इष्ट न होते हुए भी उसे स्वीकार किया, किन्तु कुछ ही दिन पश्चात् मील में कपड़े की रंगाई आदि कार्यों की देख रेख के प्रसंग में उन कार्यों में होने वाली बड़ी भारी हिंसा को देखकर आत्मग्लानि उत्पन्न हुई और आपने मील में कार्य करने की अस्वीकृति सेठानी सां. के समक्ष प्रगट कर दी, क्योंकि आप जानते थे कि सेठानीजी का मुझ पर वात्सल्यमय स्नेह है। था भी ऐसा ही, सेठ जी तो थे नहीं दोनों सेठानियों की वात्सल्यमयी दृष्टि आप पर सदैव बनी रही थी। आपको मील से दुकान पर बुला लिया गया। इसी प्रकार संतोषवृत्ति पूर्वक दोनों भाई बहिनों का जीवन निर्विघ्नतया व्यतीत हो रहा था कि इसी बीच सेठानीजी ने कई बार आपके समक्ष विवाह करने का प्रस्ताव रखा और यहां तक कहना प्रारम्भ किया कि विवाह का सारा प्रबन्ध हम कर देंगे, तुम विवाह कर लो, किन्तु जो महान आत्मा मोक्षमार्ग में लगकर रत्नमय पालन करते हुए मोक्षलक्ष्मी को वरण करने की मन में भावना को जागृत करने में लगे थे उन्हें सांसारिक विवाह-बन्धन में बंधकर आत्मोन्नति में बाधा उपस्थित करना कैसे इष्ट हो सकता था? अतः सेठानीजी द्वारा कई बार रखे गए विवाह सम्बन्धी प्रस्ताव को आपने ठुकरा दिया और बालब्रह्मचारी रहने का निर्णय किया।
गुरुसंयोग और व्रती जीवन का प्रारम्भ :
इन्दौर नगर में प.पू. आचार्य श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज का समागम आपको प्राप्त हुआ, किन्तु आप दूर से ही दर्शन करके आ जाते थे. एक दिन आपके साथी मित्र आपको पूज्य महाराज श्री के निकट ले गए। प्रारम्भिक वार्ता के पश्चात् व्रतों के महत्व को अत्यन्त संक्षेप में बताते हुए आपको महाराज श्री ने व्रती बनने की प्रेरणा दी। उन्होंने कहा कि “दो प्रतिमा ले लो" आपने मन में सोचा सम्भव है महाराज “मंदिर में विराजमान प्रतिमाओं के सम्बन्ध में कह रहे होंगे?" उन दिनों भी आप शुद्ध भोजन तो करते ही थे अतः आपने स्वीकृति दी और गुरुदेव ने बारह व्रतों के नाम बताते हुए व्रतों के पालन की अति संक्षिप्त विधि बता दी। यद्यपि आप व्रती बन चुके थे, तथापि व्रतों का निर्दोष पालन किस प्रकार होगा इस बात की चिन्ता मन में थी। उन दिनों आपका विशेष स्वाध्याय भी नहीं था, इसी कारण जब आपको महाराज ने सर्व प्रथम दो प्रतिमा लेने के लिए कहा तो आप उक्त बात ही समझे थे। उन दिनों गुरु के प्रति विनय-श्रद्धा की भावना अधिक थी। गुरुओं के समक्ष अधिक मुखरता और तर्क-वितर्क नहीं था। यही कारण था कि आपने अत्यन्त विनय पूर्वक गुरुवर्य की आज्ञा शिरोधार्य की और व्रतों के पालन सम्बन्धी विशेष जानकारी स्वयं ग्रंथों का स्वाध्याय करके या विद्वानों से सम्पर्क करके प्राप्त की तथा गुरु द्वारा प्रदत्त व्रतों का निर्दोष रीत्या पालन करने लगे। यहीं से आपके व्रतीजीवन का प्रारम्भ हुआ।
चूंकि अब आप व्रती बन चुके थे अतः आपने अपने धर्मध्यान एवं स्वाभिमान पूर्ण जीवन में नौकरी को बाधक समझ कर नौकरी छोड़ दी। आजीविकोपार्जन के लिए आपने स्वतंत्र रूप से कपड़े की फेरी का कार्य प्रारम्भ किया। प्रातःकाल नित्य क्रियाओं से निवृत्त होकर जिनेन्द्र पूजन, स्वाध्यायादि आवश्यक कर्तव्यों को करके भोजनादि से निवृत्ति हो जाने पर मध्यान्हकाल के पश्चात् लगभग 3 बजे आप फेरी पर निकलते थे। कपड़ा बेचते हुए जब 2-3 घंटे में आपको 1 रुपया प्रतिदिन प्राप्त हो जाता था तो आप वापस घर आ जाते थे। आपकी सन्तोषवृत्ति से साथी लोग भी चकित थे। आपकी यह धारणा बन चुकी थी आजीविका चलाने के योग्य मुनाफा प्राप्त हो जाता है फिर दिन-भर व्यापार में क्यों रचा-पचा जावे। दोनों भाईबहिनों के लिए उन दिनों में उतना ही काफी था। परिग्रह का संचय किसके लिये करना था। दोनों ही प्राणी व्रतीजीवन अंगीकार कर चुके थे। 2-3 घंटे के पश्चात् घर आकर आप अपना शेष समय स्वाध्यायादि में लगाते थे।
संयम की ओर बढ़ते कदम :
चूंकि उन दिनों दिगम्बर मुनिराजों का मंगल विहार उत्तर भारत में भी होने लगा था अतः गुरु दर्शन पाकर जनमानस अपना जीवन धन्य मानते थे। उन दिनों में जब कि मुनिराजों के दर्शन दुर्लभ थे तब यदि कोई ब्रह्मचारी भी आ जाते थे तो उनका पूर्ण सम्मान किया जाता था और बड़ी भक्ति पूर्वक उनसे कुछ आत्मोन्नति का मार्ग प्राप्त करने का प्रयास किया जाता था, किन्तु वर्तमान के बुद्धि प्रधान वितर्कणाओं से युक्त वातावरण में पलने वाला मानव साक्षात् दिगम्बर मुद्राधारी गुरुजनों के पास भी आने से भयभीत है, क्योंकि उसके दिमाग में तो अब तर्क-वितर्क की गंदगी बैठी है और वह संयम से कोसों दूर रहता है। उसे भय लगता है कि यदि संयमी मुनिराजों के पास जाऊंगा तो संयम की बात होगी और जीवन को संयमित करने की प्रेरणा दी जावेगी जो उसे इष्ट नहीं है। अस्तु !
जिन्हें आत्मोत्थान के लिए संयम अत्यन्त प्रिय था वे गुरुजनों के समागम में रहकर ही आत्म संतुष्टि करते थे। इसी के फलस्वरूप जब प. पू. आचार्य कल्प श्री चंद्रसागरजी महाराज का ससंघ चातुर्मास बड़नगर में था उस समय आप उनके चरण सान्निध्य में पहुँचे और स्वाध्यायादि के साथ-साथ गुरु सेवा का अवसर प्राप्त कर बड़े आनंदित थे। अब चूंकि बहिन दाखांबाई और आपका निर्मल स्नेह एवं धर्म के प्रति अनुराग ही परिवार था अतः आप दोनों ही सदैव साथ-साथ गुरुजनों के समागम में जाते थे। चातुर्मास के मध्य अपने ब्रह्मचर्य प्रतिमा (सप्तम प्रतिमा) के व्रत अंगीकार कर लिये। आजीवन ब्रह्मचारी रहने का संकल्प तो आप पहले ही ले चुके थे अतः अब कोई दुविधा मन में नहीं थी। यह आपके संयमी जीवन का प्रथम चरण था, और अब चिरंजीलाल से ब्रह्मचारी चिरंजीलाल हो गये थे।
गृहत्याग एवं क्षुल्लकदीक्षा :
बड़नगर चातुर्मास के पश्चात् आचार्य कल्प श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज इन्दौर नगर में पधारे। आपकी छत्रछाया में ब्र. चिरंजीलालजी अपरनाम कजोड़ीमलजी अपने जीवन को दिनप्रतिदिन उन्नत बनाने के लिए प्रयत्नशील थे। पू. श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज ने इन्दौर नगर में धर्म प्रभावना करते हुए भी प्रसंगवश अपने आराध्य गुरुदेव परम पूज्य चारित्र चक्रवर्ती आचार्य श्री शांतिसागरजी महाराज का आदेश प्राप्त करते ही इन्दौर नगर से विहार कर दिया था। उसी समय आप भी गृह त्याग करके संघ के साथ हो गये थे। बावनगजा, मांगीतुंगी आदि क्षेत्रों की वंदना करते हुए नंदगांव-कोपरगांव और कसाबखेड़ा नगरों में प्रभावना पूर्ण चातुर्मास आ. क. श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज ने किये तथा इन नगरों के आस पास के ग्रामों में विहार करके धर्म प्रभावना करते हुए बालूज (महाराष्ट्र) में जब संघ पहुँचा तो महाराष्ट्र प्रान्त की जनता गुरु सान्निध्य प्राप्त कर हर्षित थी।
आपके मन में दीक्षा धारण करने की भावना अवश्य थी और आप अपनी बहिन से इस बात को कह भी चुके थे। आप दीक्षा प्राप्त न होने तक विभिन्न रसों का परित्याग भी करते रहते थे, किन्तु दीक्षा के लिए आपने गुरुदेव के समक्ष कभी प्रार्थना नहीं की। दीक्षा लेने के आपके विचार गुरुदेव के समक्ष अन्य लोगों के द्वारा पहुंच भी गये थे अतः गुरुदेव ने कहा कि कजोड़ीमल जी (चिरंजीलालजी) स्वयं आकर कहे तो मैं उनको दीक्षा दूं और आपके मन में यह भावना थी कि यदि मुझमें योग्यता आ गई है तो स्वयं गुरुदेव दीक्षा लेने के लिए कहें तो मैं दीक्षा लूं। इस प्रकार गुरु-शिष्य के मध्य कुछ दिन वात्सल्यमय मानसिक द्वन्द्व चलता रहा। अन्ततः गुरु के समक्ष शिष्य की हार हुई और उन्होंने गुरुदेव के चरणों में दीक्षा प्रदान करने की प्रार्थना की। प्रार्थना करते ही शुभ दिवस में आपको दीक्षा प्रदान की गई।
बालूज नगर की जनता के लिए वह अपूर्व आनन्द की मंगल बेला चैत्र शुक्ला सप्तमी वि.सं. 2001 थी, जिस दिन आपने क्षुल्लक दीक्षा प्राप्त की थी। दीक्षित नाम क्षुल्लक भद्रसागरजी रखा गया।
गुरु वियोग :
क्षुल्लक दीक्षा होने के पश्चात् आपने गुरुवर्य श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज के साथ अडूल (महाराष्ट्र) में सर्वप्रथम चातुर्मास किया। चातुर्मास के पश्चात् गिरनारजी सिद्धक्षेत्र की वन्दना हेतु गुरुदेव ने ससंघ मंगल विहार किया। मार्ग में पड़ने वाले मुक्तागिरी, सिद्धवर कूट, ऊनपावागिरी आदि क्षेत्रों की वंदना करते हुए बावनगजा सिद्धक्षेत्र पर पहुँचने के पश्चात् फाल्गुन शुक्ला पूर्णिमा वि. सं. 2001 में सिंह वृत्ति धारक गुरुवर्य श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज का सल्लेखना पूर्वक स्वर्गवास हो गया। जन्म लेने के पश्चात् जिस प्रकार अल्पवय में ही आपको माता-पिता के वियोग का दुःख आया उसी प्रकार दीक्षा जीवन के लगभग 11 माह 8 दिन में ही पितृ-तुल्य तरण-तारण गुरुवर्य का वियोग भी सहना पड़ा।
पू. श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज के स्वर्गवास के पश्चात् आप आ. श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज के चरण सानिध्य में आ गये और गुरुवर्य के साथ क्षुल्लकावस्था में 6 चातुर्मास किये। इन वर्षों में आपने स्वाध्याय के बल पर आगम ज्ञान को वृद्धिगत किया। आपकी सदैव प्रसन्न मुद्रा से समाज में आनन्द रहता था। चूंकि आ.क. श्री चंद्रसागरजी की चरण सन्निधि में षोडश कलाओं से युक्त चन्द्रमा के समान आपका ज्ञान वैराग्योदधि वृद्धि को प्राप्त हुआ था अतः अब आप प्रतिक्षण महाव्रत प्राप्ति के लिए भावना करते रहते थे कि कब इस अल्प वस्त्र रूप परिग्रह को भी शीघ्र ही छोडूं।
संयम का दूसरा चरण:
प. पू. आ. श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज ने सुजानगढ़ में वि. सं. 2007 में ससंघ वर्षायोग सम्पन्न किया। इसके पश्चात् संघ का मंगल विहार विभिन्न गांवों एवं नगरों में होता हुआ फुलेरा की ओर हुआ। फुलेरा नगर में पंचकल्याणक प्रतिष्ठा के अवसर पर तपकल्याणक के दिन
आपने ऐलक दीक्षा ग्रहण की। इस समय आपके पास एक कौपीन मात्र परिग्रह शेष रह गया था। वि. सं. 2008 के वैशाख मास में होने वाले इस पंचकल्याणक प्रतिष्ठा महोत्सव में आपने ऐलक दीक्षा रूप उत्कृष्ट श्रावक के पद को भी प्राप्त तो कर लिया था, किन्तु मोक्षमार्ग में इतने से परिग्रह को भी बाधक समझकर निरन्तर आप यही भावना करते रहे कि शीघ्र ही दिगम्बर अवस्था को प्राप्त करूँ। “यादृशी भावना यस्य सिद्धिर्भवति तादृशी” के अनुसार 6 माह के पश्चात् ही वह मंगलमय दिवस भी प्राप्त हुआ जिस दिन आपने मुनिदीक्षा ग्रहण की।
दिगम्बरत्व प्राप्ति :
फुलेरा पंचकल्याणक प्रतिष्ठा के पश्चात् संघ ने आस-पास के ग्रामों में विहार किया और धर्म प्रभावना करते हुए वर्षायोग का समय निकट आ जाने पर पुनः फुलेरा नगर में वर्षायोग सम्पन्न करने हेतु मंगल प्रवेश किया। आषाढ़ शुक्ला 14 सं. 2008 को संघ ने वर्षायोग की स्थापना की। प. पू. आ. श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज के वात्सल्यामृत से वैराग्य का वह बीजांकुर वृक्ष रूप से पल्लवित हो रहा था जिसे चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज ने लगाया था। कार्तिक की अष्टाहिका महापर्व के उपान्त्य दिवस कार्तिक शुक्ला 14 सं. 2008 के दिन आपको आ.श्री 108 वीरसागरजी द्वारा भगवती श्रमण दीक्षा प्रदान की गई। अब आप रत्नत्रय मार्ग के पूर्ण पथिक दिगम्बर मुनि 108 श्री धर्मसागरजी थे।
____ फुलेरा नगर का यह बड़ा सौभाग्य रहा कि यहाँ की समाज ने संयम की तीनों अवस्थाओं में आपके दर्शन किये। वि. सं. 2005 में क्षुल्लकावस्था में पहले आपके दर्शन प्राप्त किये ही थे और ऐलक एवं मुनि दीक्षा तो आपकी यहीं पर हुई थी।
तीर्थराज सम्मेदाचल की वन्दना :
फुलेरा नगर का वर्षायोग सम्पन्न होने के पश्चात् मार्गशीर्ष माह में प. पू. वीरसागरजी महाराज ने ससंघ तीर्थराज सम्मेदाचल की ओर मंगल विहार किया। पू. श्री वीरसागरजी
महाराज इससे पूर्व भी अपने आराध्य गुरुदेव श्री आचार्य प्रवर शांतिसागरजी महाराज के साथ मुनि अवस्था में ही तीर्थराज की वंदना कर चुके थे। संघ मार्ग में पड़ने वाले ग्रामों तथा नगरों में अपने उपदेशामृत से धर्मप्रभावना करते हुए सम्मेदाचल की ओर बढ़ रहा था। मार्गस्थ राजगृही आदि अन्य सिद्धक्षेत्रों की वंदना भी संघ ने की। इस तीर्थ वंदना में नव दीक्षित मुनिराज धर्मसागरजी भी साथ थे।
__ जब कोई भी व्यक्ति अपना लक्ष्य निर्धारित करके उस ओर गतिमान रहता है तो गन्तव्य स्थान पर अवश्य पहुँचता है। संघ भी धीरे-धीरे अपने गन्तव्य स्थान तीर्थराज पर पहुँचा। आपने भी संघ के साथ अनन्त तीर्थंकरों की सिद्धभूमि उस अनादिनिधन तीर्थराज की वंदना करके परम आल्हाद का अनुभव किया। चूंकि संघ जब यहाँ पहुँचा था तब वर्षायोग का समय अत्यन्त निकट था अतः मधुवन से ईसरीबाजार आकर इस वर्ष का वर्षायोग संघ ने यहीं स्थापित किया।
इस प्रकार गुरुवर के साथ-साथ ही आपने विहार किया एवं उनके अंतिम समय तक उन्हीं के साथ रहे। वि. सं. 2012 में बीसवीं सदी के प्रथम दिगम्बराचार्य चारित्र चक्रवर्ती परम पूज्य आचार्य श्री शांतिसागरजी महाराज ने अपनी सल्लेखना के समय कुन्थलगिरी से अपना आचार्य पट्ट अपने प्रथम शिष्य 108 वीरसागरजी मुनिराज को प्रदान किया। तदनुसार वि.सं. 2012 में ही जयपुर खानियां में वर्षायोग के समय विशेष समारोह पूर्वक चतुर्विध संघ ने आ.क. श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज को अपना आचार्य स्वीकार किया। अब वीरसागरजी महाराज के ऊपर दोहरा भार था। और उन्होंने गुरु द्वारा प्रदत्त आचार्य पद पर प्रतिष्ठित होकर उसे सफलता पूर्वक निभाया। आचार्य पद के पश्चात् भी 2 वर्ष तक आपने खानियां जयपुर में ही चातुर्मास किये, क्योंकि आप शारीरिक रूप से अस्वस्थ थे और विहार करने की सक्षमता आप में नहीं थी।
एक और झटका गुरु वियोग का :
वि.सं. 2014 का चातुर्मास जयपुर में ही सानन्द सम्पन्न हो गया था कि इसी बीच आश्विन कृष्णा 15 को आचार्य श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज का सहसा ही सल्लेखना मरण हो गया। आपको अभी दीक्षा लिए 6 वर्ष ही हुए थे कि आपको गुरु वियोगज अनिष्ट प्रसंग प्राप्त हुआ। आचार्य श्री वीरसागरजी का स्वर्गवास हो जाने के पश्चात् समस्त संघ ने उनके प्रधान शिष्य मुनिराज श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज को संघ का आचार्य बनाया।
गिरिनार सिद्धक्षेत्र की वंदना एवं संघ से पृथक विहार :
अब संघ के आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज थे। आचार्य संघ ने गिरनार यात्रा के लिए मंगल विहार किया। चूंकि अब से 13 वर्ष पूर्व क्षुल्लक दीक्षा होने के पश्चात् आ.क. श्री चन्द्रसागरजी महाराज के साथ आपने गिरनारजी सिद्धक्षेत्र की वन्दना के लिए विहार किया था, किन्तु गुरुदेव का असमय में मध्य यात्रा में ही स्वर्गवास हो जाने से उस समय आप यात्रा नहीं कर पाये थे अतः उस समय का मनोरथ अब पूर्ण होता देख आपको प्रसन्नता थी। आपने भी संघ के साथ विहार करते हुए सिद्धक्षेत्र वंदना की और वहाँ से वापस लौटते समय ब्यावर नगर में संघ ने वर्षायोग का विचार किया। चूंकि वर्षायोग में अभी समय था अतः आपने संघस्थ एक और मुनिराज को साथ लेकर संघ से पृथक विहार कर दिया और निकटस्थ आनन्दपुर कालू जाकर वर्षायोग स्थापित किया।
यहाँ से अगले दो चातुर्मास क्रमशः बीर (अजमेर) और बूंदी करने के पश्चात् बुन्देलखण्ड की यात्रा करने के लिए आपने दो मुनिराजों के साथ मंगल विहार किया। तीर्थक्षेत्रों की वन्दना करते हुए आपने उस प्रांत में ग्राम-ग्राम, नगर-नगर में अत्यन्त धर्म प्रभावना की। इतना ही नहीं वि. सं 2018, 2019 व 2020 के तीन वर्षायोग भी आपने इसी प्रान्त के क्रमशः शाहगढ़, सागर और खुरई नगर में किए थे। इन तीनों वर्षायोगों में धर्म की महती प्रभावना हुई तथा आपके सरलता आदि अनुपम गुणों के कारण सागर के कई विद्वान आपसे प्रभावित भी हुए तथा आपके चरण सानिध्य में व्रती जीवन भी प्राप्त किया। इन तीनों चातुर्मासों में दीक्षा समारोह (खुरई में) के अतिरिक्त सबसे बड़ी विशेषता यह रही कि एक अजैन व्यक्ति जो कि । भाटियाजी के नाम से विख्यात है, ने आपके उपदेशों से प्रभावित होकर कई स्थानों पर अपने स्वोपार्जित द्रव्य से सिद्धचक्र विधान भी करवाये एवं जैन तीर्थों की वंदना भी की। उन्होंने महाराज श्री के आदर्श त्यागमय जीवन से प्रभावित होकर धर्मध्यान दीपक नाम पुस्तक के एक संस्करण का प्रकाशन भी करवाया।
मालवा प्रान्तीय तीर्थक्षेत्रों की वन्दना :
खुरई नगर में वर्षा योग सानंद सम्पन्न होने के पश्चात् आप सहित मुनित्रय ने मालवा प्रांत की ओर विहार किया तथा सिद्धवरकूट-ऊन, पावागिरी-बावनगजा आदि तीर्थों की वन्दना की। इस यात्रा के मध्य पड़ने वाले ग्राम-नगरों में भव्य जीवों को उपदेशामृत का पान कराते हुए लेखक की जन्मभूमि (सनावद-म.प्र.) भी पहुँचे। आपके उस प्रवास काल में मेरी (वर्धमानसागर की) आयु लगभग 13 वर्ष की होगी। आपका 15-20 दिवसीय वह प्रवास आज भी स्मृति पटल पर अंकित है। कल्पना भी नहीं की जा सकती थी उस समय कि इन महान गुरुराज के चरण सान्निध्य में कालांतर में श्रमण दीक्षा प्राप्त करने का मंगलमय सुयोग प्राप्त होगा और मोक्ष मार्ग में रत्नत्रायराधना का मार्गदर्शन प्राप्त होगा। मैं स्वयं विधि के इस विधान पर आश्चर्यान्वित हूँ कि आपसे मेरा गुरु-शिष्य का सम्बन्ध स्थापित हुआ। आप जैसे चारित्र मूर्तिनिस्पृह व्यक्तित्व करुणा सागर गुरुदेव को प्राप्त कर मेरा जीवन सफल हुआ। अस्तु!
बावनगजा सिद्धक्षेत्र की वंदना के पश्चात् आपने इन्दौर नगर की ओर विहार किया और वि.सं. 2021 का वर्षायोग यहीं स्थापित किया। इस वर्षायोग में आपको सर्वप्रथम मुनिशिष्य की प्राप्ति हुई अर्थात् आपने सर्वप्रथम मुनिदीक्षा इसी चातुर्मास में प्रदान की। वर्षायोग के पश्चात् आपने राजस्थान प्रांत की ओर विहार किया तथा क्रमशः झालरापाटन (2022), टोंक (2023), बूंदी (2024) और बिजोलिया (2025) का चातुर्मास किया। झालरापाटन के वि.सं. 2022 के वर्षायोग के सम्पन्न होने पर आप झालरापाटन के आसपास के ग्रामों में विहार करते हुए ‘बासी' ग्राम में आए। आपके सान्निध्य में पंचकल्याण प्रतिष्ठा भी यहाँ सम्पन्न
हुई थी। यहीं आपके चरण सानिध्य में वीतराग प्रभु के प्रति मूल प्रेरणा स्रोत आपके गृहस्थावस्था की बहिन ब्र. दाखांबाई ने सल्लेखना पूर्वक अत्यंत शांत परिणामों से इस नश्वर शरीर का परित्याग कर स्वर्गारोहण किया था। आप प्रारम्भ से ही अति सहनशील एवं शांत परिणामी थीं। स्वयं आचार्य श्री उनके इन गुणों की प्रशंसा करते, किन्तु जिन्होंने भी दाखांबाई को देखा था वे सब उनके गुणों की प्रशंसा करते हुए ही पाये गये। टोंक और बूंदी के चातुर्मासों में क्रमशः क्षुल्लक और मुनि दीक्षाएं हुई। बिजोलिया के चातुर्मास में आप सहित 5 मुनिराज एवं एक ऐलकजी थे। टोंक-बूंदी और उसके पूर्व इन्दौर आदि नगरों में मुनिसंघ के नायक होने से आपको आचार्य पद प्रदान करने की भावना समाज ने व्यक्त की, किन्तु सदैव आपने यही कहा कि “धर्मप्रभावना की दृष्टि से हम पृथक विहार कर रहे हैं, हमें आचार्य पद नहीं लेना है, हमारे संघ के आचार्य शिवसागरजी महाराज विद्यमान हैं तथा दूसरी बात यह भी है कि आचार्य पद जैसे गुरुतर भार को ग्रहण करके मैं अपने धर्मध्यान में बाधा भी नहीं डालना चाहता हूँ।”
एक और वज्रपात :
वि. स. 2025 का बिजोलिया नगर में चातुर्मास सम्पन्न करके आपने श्री शांतिवीर नगर में होने वाले पंचकल्याणक महोत्सव में सम्मिलित होने के लिए श्री महावीरजी की ओर विहार किया। इसी महोत्सव में भाग लेने के लिए आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज अपने विशाल संघ सहित महावीर जी पहले ही पहुँच चुके थे। जब आप भी वहाँ पहुंचे और आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी से मिले तो वह उभय संघ सम्मिलित का दृश्य अपूर्व था। वि. सं. 2015 से पृथक विहार के पश्चात् गुरु भाईयों का वह मिलन दूसरी बार था। इससे पूर्व भी आप राजस्थान प्रांत के उनियारा ग्राम में मिल चुके थे। प्रतिष्ठा महोत्सव से पूर्व ही आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज को फाल्गुन कृष्णा 7 सं. 2025 को अचानक ज्वर ने घेर लिया और दिन-प्रतिदिन शारीरिक स्थिति गिरती ही चली गई। फाल्गुन कृष्णा 14 को लोगों ने दीक्षा ग्रहण करने हेतु आचार्य श्री के चरणों में प्रार्थना की थी। पंचकल्याणक के अंतर्गत तपकल्याणक के दिन यह
दीक्षा समारोह होने का निर्णय था। प्रतिष्ठा फाल्गुन शुक्ला 6 से प्रारम्भ होने वाली थी। दीक्षा हेतु प्रार्थना करने वालों में मैं (वर्धमानसागर) भी सम्मिलित था। फाल्गुन कृष्णा अमावस्या को शिवसागरजी महाराज के स्वास्थ्य की स्थिति और भी गिरती रही। संघस्थ मुनिराज श्री श्रुतसागरजी एवं सुबुद्धिसागर जी महाराज ने आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज से पूछा कि “यदि आपका स्वास्थ्य ठीक नहीं हो पाया और पांडाल में नहीं जा सकेंगे तो फाल्गुन शुक्ला 8 को होने वाले तपकल्याणक के अंतर्गत दीक्षा समारोह में दीक्षार्थियों को दीक्षा कौन प्रदान करेगा?" उत्तर स्वरूप आचार्य श्री ने कहा कि "अभी आठ दिन शेष है तब तक तो मैं स्वयं ही स्वस्थ हो जाऊंगा और यदि नहीं हो सका तो मुनि श्री धर्मसागरजी महाराज दीक्षार्थियों को दीक्षा प्रदान करेंगे।” धर्मसागरजी महाराज वहाँ उपस्थित मुनि समुदाय में (आचार्य शिवसागरजी को छोड़कर) सबसे तपोज्येष्ठ थे। अमावस्या की मध्यान्ह 3 बजे आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज का सहसा स्वर्गवास हो गया। समस्त संघ में वातावरण शोकाकुल सा हो गया, क्योंकि संघ ने कुशल अनुशास्ता आचार्य श्री को खो दिया था। स्वयं धर्मसागरजी महाराज ने भी निधि खो जाने जैसा अनुभव किया।
आचार्यत्व प्राप्तिः
चूंकि आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी महाराज के स्वर्गवास से प्रतिष्ठा महोत्सव में उत्साह में कमी आ गई थी और दूसरा ज्वलंत प्रश्न यह था कि संघ के आचार्य कौन होंगे? आठ दिनों की विशेष ऊहापोह के पश्चात् फाल्गुन शुक्ला 8 वि.स. 2025 को प्रभातकाल में संघस्थ सभी साधुओं ने एक स्वर से यह निर्णय किया कि अब आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी के पश्चात् संघ के आचार्य का भार मुनिराज श्री धर्मसागरजी महाराज को प्रदान किया जाये। निर्णयानुसार तपकल्याणक के अवसर पर फाल्गुन शुक्ला 8 के दिन ही आपको विशाल जनसमुदाय के समक्ष चतुर्विध संघ ने आचार्य पद पर प्रतिष्ठित किया। विधि का विधान ही कुछ ऐसा होता है कि जिस आचार्य पद को ग्रहण करने की आपने पूर्व में भी कई बार अनिच्छा प्रगट की थी वही आचार्य पद आपको स्वीकार करना पड़ा। आचार्य पद प्राप्त होने के पश्चात् उसी दिन आपके
कर कमलों से (6 मुनि, 2 आर्यिका, 2 क्षुल्लक और 1 क्षुल्लिका) 11 दीक्षाएं हुईं। ये वे ही दीक्षार्थी थे जिन्होंने आचार्य श्री शिवसागरजी के समक्ष प्रार्थना की थी।
आचार्य पद प्राप्ति के पश्चात् महावीरजी क्षेत्र से जयपुर की ओर विहार किया और गुरुदेव आचार्य श्री वीरसागरजी महाराज के निषद्यास्थान की वंदना की। वि. सं. 2026 का वर्षायोग आपने जयपुर शहर में किया। एक ओर जहाँ दीक्षा समारोह हुआ वहीं धार्मिक शिक्षा के लिए गुरुकुल की स्थापना एवं शहर में कई स्थानों पर रात्रि पाठशालाओं का संचालन भी हुआ। यहाँ आपके कर-कमलों से 5 दीक्षाएं सम्पन्न हुईं तथा आपके संघस्थ क्षु. योगीन्द्रसागरजी महाराज जिन्हें मुनि दीक्षा प्रदान कर दी गई थी का आपके चरण सान्निध्य में सल्लेखना पूर्वक स्वर्गारोहण हुआ था। वर्षायोग सानंद सम्पन्न होने के पश्चात् आपने ससंघ पद्मपुरा की ओर मंगर विहार किया, पद्मप्रभु भगवान के दर्शन करने के पश्चात् ग्राम-ग्राम मंगल विहार करके धर्मामृत की वर्षा करते हुए वि. सं. 2027 का चातुर्मास टोंक नगर में स्थापित किया। इससे 4 वर्ष पूर्व आप मुनि अवस्था में चातुर्मास कर चुके थे। इस समय आपके साथ 11 मुनि एवं 18-19 आर्यिका थीं। इस प्रकार विशाल संघ के आचार्यत्व का भार आप पर था जो कि अद्यप्रभृति है। टोंक से विहार करते हुए वि. सं. 2028 का वर्षायोग अजमेर नगर में स्थापित किया। इस वर्ष भी धर्म की महती प्रभावना के साथ-साथ आपके करकमलों से 7-8 दीक्षाएं सम्पन्न हुई थीं। इसके पश्चात् क्रमशः वि. सं. 2029 (लाडनूं) और वि. सं. 2030 (सीकर) नगर में आपके ससंघ दो चातुर्मास हुए। सीकर वर्षायोग के पश्चात् आपने दिल्ली महानगर की ओर विहार किया।
भगवान महावीर का 2500 वां परिनिर्वाणोत्सव :
वि. सं. 2031 तदनुसार सन् 1974 में सम्पन्न होने वाले निर्वाणोत्सव में आपको विशेषरूप से आमंत्रित किया गया था और दिगम्बर सम्प्रदाय के परम्परागत पट्टाचार्य होने से आपका विशेष अतिथि के रूप में राष्ट्रीय समिति में भी नाम रखा गया था। निर्वाण महोत्सव की प्रत्येक गतिविधि में प्रायः आपसे विचार विमर्श किया जाता था। आपने सम्पूर्ण कार्यक्रमों में इस बात का सदैव ध्यान रखा कि दिगम्बर संस्कृति अक्षुण्ण बनी रहे। इसका कारण यह था कि इस महोत्सव में जैन धर्म के चार सम्प्रदाय सम्मिलित हुये थे। महोत्सव पर समिति की ओर से प्रकाशित होने वाली भगवान महावीर स्वामी की जीवनी, जो कि चारों सम्प्रदाय को मान्य होनी थी, जब आपके पास अवलोकनार्थ आयी तो उस पर आपने अपनी सहमति देने से इन्कार कर दिया, क्योंकि उसमें दिगम्बर सम्प्रदाय के अनुसार कई स्थल अनुचित थे। महोत्सव में होने वाले ऐसे प्रत्येक कार्य में आपने अपनी सहमति देने से इन्कार कर दिया जिसमें वीतराग प्रभु महावीर और उनके द्वारा प्रतिपादित धर्म की आसादना होने की सम्भावना थी। इसी कारण महोत्सव समिति के प्रधान कार्यकर्ता क्षुब्ध भी हुये और कहा कि आप हमें कुछ भी कार्य नहीं करने देना चाहते तो हम समिति में रहकर ही क्या करेंगे? आपने अत्यंत गम्भीरता से अपने मनोभावों को अभिव्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि “आपलोगों को क्षुब्ध होने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, मैं यह चाहता हूँ कि दिल्ली, जो कि भारत की राजधानी है, उसमें होने वाले महोत्सव संबंधी प्रत्येक कार्यक्रम पर सारे देश की, समाज की दृष्टि लगी हुई है और सभी प्रमुख धर्माचार्यों के सानिध्य में होने वाले इस महोत्सव संबंधी कार्यक्रमों का अनुकरण सारा जैन समाज करेगा। अतः यहाँ ऐसा कोई भी कार्यक्रम मैं नहीं होने दूंगा जो दिगम्बर संस्कृति के प्रतिकुल हो और उसका सारा प्रभाव देश भर में पड़े। इसके बावजूद भी आप लोग क्षुब्ध होते हैं और कार्य समिति से इस्तीफा देते हैं तो दें, मैं तो संस्कृति के अनुकूल कार्यों में ही अपनी सहमति दे सकता हूँ।"
इस प्रकार अत्यन्त निर्भयता पूर्वक आपने दिगम्बर संस्कृति की रक्षार्थ कार्य किया और संस्कृति को अक्षुण्ण बनाये रखा। आपकी इस कार्य प्रणाली को देखकर आपके दिल्ली पहुँचने से पूर्व जो लोग आपको दिल्ली नहीं जाने देना चाहते थे उन्होंने भी एक स्वर से यह स्वीकार किया कि आपके रहते हुए परम्परा एवं आगम की महती प्रभावना हुई एवं संस्कृति अक्षुण्ण बनी रही। इस वर्ष भी आपके कर कमलों से दिल्ली महानगरी में 8 दीक्षाएं सम्पन्न हुई। दिगम्बर सम्प्रदाय की ओर से आचार्य श्री देशभूषणजी महाराज भी अपने संघ सहित इस महोत्सव में सम्मिलित हुए थे। उभय आचार्यों का वात्सल्य देखकर सारा समाज आनंद विभोर हो जाता था। महोत्सव में मुनि श्री विद्यानंदजी महाराज भी उपस्थित थे और आपने भी उभय आचार्यों की भावनाओं के अनुकूल दिगम्बर संस्कृति की अक्षुण्णता के लिए दोनों आचार्यों से सदैव परामर्श प्राप्त करके ही प्रत्येक कार्यक्रम में अपना पूर्ण सहयोग प्रदान किया था।
दिल्ली महानगर से ससंघ मंगलविहार करके आपने उत्तर प्रदेश की ओर प्रस्थान किया एवं गाजियाबाद, मेरठ, सरधना आदि स्थानों पर धर्मप्रभावना करते हुए उत्तर प्रदेश के ऐतिहासिक तीर्थ हस्तिनापुर के दर्शन करने के लिए पदार्पण किया। हस्तिनापुर भगवान शांतिनाथ-कुंथनाथ-अरहनाथ की गर्म-जन्म-तप और ज्ञान कल्याणक भूमि है। यहीं भगवान ऋषभदेव को सर्वप्रथम आहारदान राजा श्रेयांस ने दिया था। कौरव-पांडव की राज्यभूमि होने का गौरव भी इसी तीर्थक्षेत्र को प्राप्त है। यहीं पर महामुनि विष्णुकुमारजी द्वारा अकम्पनाचार्यादि 700 मुनिराजों का उपसर्ग दूर हुआ था और रक्षाबन्धन पर्व का प्रारम्भ हुआ था। और अब आर्यिका ज्ञानमती जी की दूरदर्शी सूझबूझ से आगम में वर्णित विशाल जम्बूद्वीप की रचना कमल मंदिर आदि अनेक रचनाऐं त्रिलोक शोधसंस्थान के माध्यम से हुई है तथा इस संस्थान के अन्तर्गत अन्य भी कई लोकोपकारी गतिविधियाँ सम्पन्न हो रही है।
वि. सं. 2031 में जब आचार्य श्री यहाँ पधारे थे तभी यहां प्राचीन क्षेत्र कमेटी की ओर से पंच कल्याणक प्रतिष्ठा का आयोजन था। यहीं पर आपके चरण सान्निध्य में संघस्थ मुनिराज श्री वृषभसागरजी ने यम सल्लेखना ग्रहण की थी और संघ सान्निध्य में अत्यंत शांत परिणामों एवं पूर्ण चेतनावस्था में कषाय निग्रह करते हुए इस नश्वर शरीर का परित्याग कर उत्तर भारतीय समाज के समक्ष एक आदर्श उपस्थित किया था।
तीर्थ वंदना एवं सल्लेखना महोत्सव के पश्चात् आपने ससंघ उत्तर प्रदेश के सहारनपुर नगर की ओर प्रस्थान किया। मार्ग में मुजफ्फरपुर आदि स्थानों पर धर्मप्रभावना करते हुए वर्षायोग के 1-1 12 माह पूर्व आप सहारनपुर पहुंचे। इस वर्ष (2032) का वर्षायोग आपने सहारनपुर में ही स्थापित किया था। वर्षायोग सम्पन्न होने के पश्चात् आपने पुनः मुजफ्फरपुर की ओर विहार किया। यहाँ के शीतकालीन त्रैमासिक प्रवास काल में संघस्थ दो मुनिराजों ने आपके चरणसान्निध्य में सल्लेखना पूर्वक समाधिमरण को प्राप्त किया। यहीं पर आपके कर कमलों से 11 दीक्षाएं सम्पन्न हुई। यहां से शामली कैराना-कांदला आदि ग्रामों में विहार करते हुए बड़ौत नगर में वि. सं. 2033 का वर्षायोग सम्पन्न किया। कांदला में आ.क. श्री श्रुतसागरजी महाराज जो कि आपके गुरु भाई भी थे आपके दर्शनार्थ राजस्थान प्रांत से विहार करते हुए संघ में सम्मिलित हुए। बड़ौत चातुर्मास में भी वे साथ ही थे। बड़ौत चातुर्मास के पश्चात् ससंघ आपने दिल्ली महानगर तथा रोहतक-रेवाड़ी (हरियाणा प्रान्त) आदि की ओर विहार करके राजस्थान प्रान्त में पुनः प्रस्थान किया राजस्थान के प्रसिद्ध नगर मदनगंज-किशनगढ़ में वि. सं. 2034 का वर्षायोग अभूत पूर्व धर्म प्रभावना के साथ सम्पन्न किया एवं वर्षायोग के पश्चात् अजमेर नगर की ओर प्रस्थान किया। अजमेर में शीतकालीन प्रवास व्यतीत कर आपने ससंघ ब्यावर की ओर मंगल विहार किया। साथ में आ.क. श्री श्रुतसागरजी महाराज थे वे अजमेर ही रुक गये, क्योंकि उन्हें अपने संघ में मिलना था जिसे छोड़कर वे आपके दर्शनार्थ उत्तरप्रदेश की ओर पहुँचे थे। ब्यावर के पश्चात् भीलवाड़ा होते हुए संघ भीण्डर (उदयपुर) पहुँचा। आपके ससंघ सान्निध्य में पंचकल्याणक प्रतिष्ठा अत्यन्त प्रभावना के साथ सम्पन्न हुई। इसी महोत्सव के अवसर पर शांतिवीर दिगम्बर जैन सिद्धांत संरक्षिणी सभा का नैमित्तिक अधिवेशन भी हुआ। सभा ने धर्म रक्षार्थ आपसे मार्गदशन भी प्राप्त किया। संघ ने भीण्डर से उदयपुर के लिए विहार किया। वि. सं. 2035 का वर्षायोग उदयपुर में सम्पन्न किया। इस वर्ष भी दो दीक्षाएं आपके कर कमलों से सम्पन्न हुई। उदयपुर के वर्षायोग के पश्चात् उदयपुर सम्भाग के छोटे-छोटे ग्रामों में आपने मंगल विहार किया और इन ग्रामों में फैली कुरीतियों को दूर करने की प्रेरणा अपने उपदेशों में दी। कहीं-कहीं तो आपके उपदेशामृत से प्रेरणा पाकर जीर्ण-जीर्ण दशा में स्थित मंदिरों को जीर्णोद्धार करने का संकल्प समाज ने किया। विहार मार्ग में ऐसे ग्राम भी आये जहां इतने विशाल संघ को रहने की व्यवस्था भी नहीं बन पाती थी, आपसे लोगों ने निवेदन भी किया कि बड़े संघ के रहते ग्रीष्मकाल में आपको किन्हीं बड़े स्थानों पर विहार करना चाहिए ताकि संघ की व्यवस्था ठीक प्रकार से हो सके। प्राणी मात्र के कल्याण की भावना जो कि सदैव आपके हृदय में विद्यमान थी वह शब्दों में प्रगट हुई, आपने कहा कि “बड़े नगरों व ग्रामों में प्रायः साधु विचरते ही हैं, किन्तु इन छोटे-छोटे ग्रामों में रहने वाले लोगों में व्याप्त अज्ञानान्धकार फिर कब दूर होगा ये लोग कब साधुओं का समागम प्राप्त करके आत्मकल्याण का मार्ग प्राप्त करेंगे? अतः थोड़ा कष्ट पाकर भी इन ग्रामों में विचरण करेंगे तो इन गांवों में निवास करने वाली समाज का भी तो कल्याण होगा।"
इस प्रकार छोटे-छोटे ग्रामों में मंगल विहार करते हुए आप सलुम्बर नगर में पहुंचे और समाजके विशेषाग्रह से आपने वि.सं. 2036 का वर्षायोग यहीं स्थापित किया। उदयपुर सम्भाग में आपका यह द्वितीय चातुर्मास था। पूर्ववर्ती चातुर्मासों के समान ही इस वर्ष भी अत्यन्त धर्मप्रभावना के साथ यह वर्षायोग सम्पन्न हुआ। इसके पश्चात् सलुम्बर तहसील के आसपास के छोटे-छोटे ग्रामों में पुनः धर्मप्रभावना करते हुए वि. सं. 2037 के वर्षायोग के समय आप केशरियाजी (ऋषभदेवजी) पहुंचे और इस वर्ष का चातुर्मास यहीं स्थापित किया। शारीरिक दृष्टि से यह क्षेत्र आपके तथा संघस्थ प्रायः सभी साधुओं के लिये अनुकूल नहीं रहा क्योंकि इस वर्ष इस क्षेत्र में मलेरिया का अत्यधिक प्रकोप रहा और प्रायः सभी साधुओं को ज्वराक्रांत रहना पड़ा। रोग जनित उपसर्ग तुल्य इस अनिष्ट संयोगज दुःख को संघ ने अत्यन्त प्रसन्नता के साथ सहन किया। इस वर्ष भी आपके कर कमलों से चार दीक्षाएं सम्पन्न हुई। वर्षायोग समाप्ति के पश्चात् आप केशरियाजी के आस पास के ग्रामों में विहार करते रहे।
इस प्रकार दीक्षा ग्रहण करके 42 वर्षीय दीक्षित जीवन काल में आपने भारतवर्ष के राजस्थान, मध्य प्रदेश, गुजरात, उत्तर प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र आदि प्रमुख-प्रमुख प्रान्तों में, नगर वं ग्रामों में मंगल विहार करते हुए अभूत पूर्व धर्मप्रभावना की एवं प. पू. आचार्य श्री शांतिसागरजी महाराज द्वारा आगम विहीत परम्परा को अक्षुण्ण बनाये रखा।
सरलता की प्रतिमूर्ति :
गृहस्थ हो या साधु (अनगार ) आत्मसाधना का प्रमुख आधार सरलता है, निष्कपटता है। आत्मविशुद्धि के लिये सरलता एक अमोघ साधन है । सरल परिणामों से युक्त आत्मा ही निर्मल पवित्र होती है और साधक अपने लक्ष्य को प्राप्त कर लेता है । आचार्यश्री सरल भाव की ज्योतिर्मय मूर्ति हैं । आपके जीवन में कहीं छुपाव या दुराव वाली बात को स्थान नहीं है । इसी सरलता के कारण आप निर्भीक एवं स्पष्टवादी हैं । कथनी और करनी की समानता वाले सद्गुरु इस संसार में अत्यन्त विरल हैं, आचार्यश्री भी कथनी और करनी की समानता से संयुक्त अद्भत योगीराज हैं।
आचार्यश्री इस युग के आदर्श संत हैं । संतजीवन की समग्र विभूतियां उन में केन्द्रित हो गई हैं । शिशु का सा सारल्य, माता का कारुण्य, योगी की असम्पृक्तता से ओतप्रोत उनका जीवन है। हृदय नवनीत सा मृदु, वाणी में सुधा की मधुरता और व्यवहार में अनायास अपनी ओर आक्रमक लेने बाला जादू ही है । आत्मनिष्ठा के साथ अशेष निष्ठा का निर्वाह करने वाले प्राचार्यश्री वास्तव में अनेकांत के मूर्तिमान उदाहरण हैं।
सिद्धान्त विरोधी प्रवृत्ति में असहिष्णुता :
आर्ष परम्परा के प्रतिकूल सिद्धान्त विरोधी प्रवृत्ति को आपने कभी भी सहन नहीं किया है। न तो आप स्वयं सिद्धान्त विरुद्ध आचरण करते हैं और न किसी के सिद्धान्त विरुद्ध आचरण को सहन ही करते हैं। भगवान महावीर के २५०० वें परि निर्वाणोत्सव के प्रसंग में ऐसे अवसर भी आये जब संस्कृति के विरुद्ध भी सभा में कार्यक्रमों के प्रमुख अतिथियों ने अपने वक्तव्य देने का असफल प्रयास किया, किन्तु उस समय भी आपने पूर्ण निर्भीकता से उन सिद्धान्त विरुद्ध बोलने वाले लोगों को अच्छी नसीहत देते हुए स्पष्ट शब्दों में सभा के मध्य ही सिंह गर्जना करते हुए कहा कि इनको हमारे धर्म सिद्धान्त के विरुद्ध बोलने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है । उस समय आपने यह संकोच कभी नहीं किया कि सभा में आने वाला मुख्य अतिथि केन्द्रीय सरकार का मंत्री है या अन्य कोई । आप सदैव ही आर्ष परम्परा को अक्षुण्ण बनाये रखने में प्रयत्नशील रहते हैं ।
मन वचन कर्म की ऐक्य परिणति मूर्तिमान :
विश्व में तीन प्रकार के व्यक्ति पाये जाते हैं । सर्वप्रथम तो ऐसे व्यक्ति हैं जिनका हृदय बहुत सरल, मधुर और निश्छल प्रतीत होता है । किन्तु हृदय की मधुरता वाणी में प्रगट नहीं होती है, मन का माधुर्य कर्म में भी नहीं उतर पाता है । उनके अन्तःकरण की सरलता वाणी में प्रगट नहीं हो पाती है। दसरी कोटि के ऐसे व्यक्ति भी बहुत हैं जिनकी मिश्री के समान वाणी मधुर सरस होती है किन्त हृदय कटुता, विद्वेष, वैमनस्य संयुक्त है । तीसरे प्रकार के व्यक्ति भी विश्व में यत्किचित् संख्या में मणिवत प्रकाशमान हैं, उनकी वाणी मधुर, मन उससे भी मधुर, वाणी सरल, सरस और हृदय उससे भी सरल, सरस और पवित्र होता है । आचार्य श्री धर्मसागरजी महाराज का व्यक्तित्व इसी कोटि का है। महान व्यक्तियों के मन, वचन, क्रिया में सदैव एकरूपता होती है और दुरात्मा इससे विपरीत होता है । प्राचार्यश्री का पावन जीवन मन, वचन, क्रिया और कर्मरूप निर्मल त्रिवेणी का संगम स्थल है अतः वह परम पावन जीवन्त तीर्थ है।
स्नेह सौजन्य की मूर्ति :
आचार्यश्री का हृदय सरोवर स्नेह और सौजन्य से लबालब भरा हया है। जो भी व्यक्ति सामने जाता है, स्नेह और सौजन्य से अभिषिक्त हुए बिना नहीं रहता। राजा हो या रंक, हो या निर्धन, बालक हो या वृद्ध, नर हो या नारी, अनुरागी हो या विरोधी, निन्दक हो या सक सभी पर समान भाव से स्नेह की पीयूष धारा बरसाने वाले आचार्य श्री धर्मसागरजी नाराज अनायास ही सबको अपना बना लेते हैं। प्रायः देखा जाता है कि जब कोई व्यक्ति साधारण स्थिति पर पहुंचता है तो वह साधारण व्यक्तियों से अपने आपको ऊँचा मानते हुए गर्वानुभूति करता है। किन्तु आचार्यश्री में ऐसा नहीं है। कुछ लोगों का कहना है कि श्रद्धा अज्ञान की सहचारिणी है, किन्तु आचार्यश्री ने अपने व्यक्तित्वबल से जहां साधारण जन की श्रद्धा का अर्जन किया है वहीं समाज के विद्वज्जन भी आपके सरल, शांत, सौम्य एवं निस्पृह वृत्ति से प्रभावित हुए हैं । आचार्यश्री की स्मरण शक्ति भी अद्भुत है । आपकी जिह्वा पर जैन दर्शन के संस्कृत प्राकृत भाषा से सम्बद्ध अनेकों श्लोक विद्यमान हैं और आप निरन्तर उठते बैठते उनका पारायण करते रहते हैं।

आचार्यश्री की धर्मदेशना प्रणाली अपने ढंग को निराली है, उनके प्रवचनों में न तो दार्शनिक स्तर की सूक्ष्मता है और न ही आध्यात्मवाद की अज्ञेय गहराईयां हैं। लौकिकजनों को अनुरन्जित कर लौकेषणा से अनुप्राणित भाषा का प्रयोग भी उनके प्रवचनों में नहीं होता है । उनके हृदय की निर्मलता सरलता और विरक्तता उनकी वाणी में प्रकट होती है, क्योंकि आगमानुसार संयम से परिपूर्ण उनका प्रवचन तथा उसके अनुरूप ही जीवन भी संयमित है । आपके प्रवचनों में खड़ी हिन्दी में राजस्थानी ( मारवाड़ी) भाषा का पुट अत्यन्त मधुर लगता है । आगम समर्थित वैराग्यो त्पादक आपकी वारणी ने अनेकों भव्यात्माओं को प्रभावित किया है जिसके फलस्वरूप वे अपने आत्मकल्याण के मार्ग पर अग्रसर हैं । कितने ही पापानुगामी जीवों ने पाप पथ का परित्याग करके चममाग को अपनाया है । आप अपने प्रवचनों में सदैव कहा करते हैं कि वास्तविक पानन्द की सिद्धि मान में नहीं है त्याग में है और व्यक्ति का जीवन भी समीचीन त्याग से उन्नति पथ पर अग्रसर होता है । भोग आत्म पतन और त्याग प्रात्मोन्नति का राजपथ है। आचार्यश्री आत्मविद्या के सजग व परमयोगी हैं। उनकी आत्म साधना का प्रत्यक्ष रूप उनके दर्शन मात्र से ही प्रतिबिम्बित होता है।
आचार्यश्री मेरे दीक्षा गुरु हैं अत: मैंने उन्हें असाधारण व्यक्तित्व सम्पन्न निधि आदि विशेषणों से अलंकृत किया हो ऐसी बात नहीं है । जिस प्रकार सूर्य का प्रकार शीतलता और जलधिका गाम्भीर्य प्रमाणित करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है उसी प्रकार व्यक्तित्व को निखारने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती वह स्वतः निखरित होता है। महापुरुष चरण बढ़ाते हैं वही मार्ग है, जो कहते हैं वही शास्त्र है और जो कुछ करते हैं वही कर्तव्य बन जा महापुरुष तीन प्रकार के होते हैं। (१) जन्म जात (२) श्रम या योग्यता के बल पर (३) कृत्रिम पर महानता थोपी जाती है । आचार्यश्री जन्म जात महापुरुष तो हैं ही किन्तु योग्यता के बल पर महापुरुष भी उन्हें कहा जावे तो अतियोशक्ति नहीं होगी। आपके विशाल व्यक्तित्व की प्रामाणिकता में सबसे बड़ा कारण है आपका निर्दोष आचार ।
