During the time of Bhadrabahu swami there was a drought of 12 years and this knowledge started to disappear. In the lineage of Bhadrabahu swami there were 2 great Acharyas - Dharsen Acharya and Gunbhadra Acharya (around 700 years after Mahavir bhagwan - reference: 64 riddhi puja by Swaroopchandji). Dharsen Acharya Dev lived in the caves of the Girnar mountain. Until his time, knowledge was passed verbally but then he noticed that due to reduction in brain power, this verbal knowledge was diminishing and was afraid it would be lost altogether so he called 2 monks from the South of India - Pushpadant and Bhootbali. He tested them when they came, by giving them 2 mantras, one of which contained an extra word and the other one was a word short. Whilst both monks were thinking carefully about these mantras, 2 devis (fairies) appeared - one with one eye and one with one tooth sticking out. Thus they understood that these mantras were not pure. They added the missing word and removed the extra word from the 2 mantras, and as these became pure two beautiful devis appeared. They then took these two mantras to Dharsen Acharya who upon reading them said "Jai Ho to Shrut Devta" (long live correct knowledge). As he was satisfied, Dharsen Acharya gave them the knowledge of "the 5th mahakarma prakarti prabhrut adhikar of Agrayani poorva". The two monks then absorbed this knowledge and wrote the first scripture called the "Shatkhand Agam". On completing this scripture in the town of Ankleshwar on the 5th day of the Jesht Sud month (shrut panchami), the devs performed a special puja. From this scripture, many more scriptures were written and thus started the flow of written knowledge.
Lord Mahavir Swami preached Bhavshruta, so he is the Arthakarta. In the same period, Gautam Gotri Indrabhuti, having four knowledge, composed twelve Anga and fourteen Purvarup texts in a sequence in a single Muhurta. Those Gautamswami also gave both types of Shrutgyan to Loharya. Loharya also gave it to Jambuswami. In the tradition order, all these three are said to be the holders of Sakalshruta and if the tradition order is not expected, then there were thousands of Sakalshrutas holders at that time. Gautamswami, Loharya and Jambuswami all three attained Nirvana. After this, Vishnu, Nandimitra, Aparajita, Govardhan and Bhadrabahu, these five Acharyas, became the holders of the fourteenth preceding the customary order. Then Visakhaacharya, Prosthil, Kshatriya, Jayacharya, Nagacharya, Siddhant, Sthavira, Dhritisen, Vijayacharya, Budhil and Gangdev these eleven great men are the eleven organs in the order of tradition,
After this, Nakshatraacharya, Jaipal, Panduswami, Dhruvasena, Kansacharya, all these five Acharyas became the holders of the entire eleven limbs and the fourteen Purva Ekadesh in the order of tradition.
Subsequently Subhadra, Yashobhadra, Yashobahu and Loharya, all these four Acharyas became the holders of the entire Acharanga and the rest of the Anga and the Ekadesh of the East. After this, Dharsen Acharya received the knowledge of all the parts and a country of the East coming from the Acharya tradition.
Saurashtra (Gujarat-Kathiawad) The Ashtanga Mahanimitta, who lives in the moon cave of the city named Girinagar in the country, will be dissected, and the organ Shruta will be severed, in this way the fear has arisen, Whom, such a Dharasenacharya will have great glory (five-year sadhu conference) Sent an article to the Acharyas of Dakshinapath (resident of the south country) who joined. Having understood well the words of Dharasenacharya written in the article, those Acharyas were able to accept and hold the meaning of the scriptures, having a variety of bright and pure humility, the holder of the garland of modesty, the food in the form of sending (sending) by the gurus. Satisfied with country, clan and caste, born in pure i.e. in the best clan and best caste, well versed in all arts and thrice have asked the Acharyas who sent two such sadhus from the banks of the Venandi flowing in the country of Andhra.
